Los Angeles World Airports Systems Engineering

Client: Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)
Location: Los Angeles, California
Through its operating companies of DMJM H&N, DMJM Aviation, and Austin AECOM, AECOM has been providing Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) a variety of systems engineering and IT services spanning several programs.
IT Master Planning
In a joint venture, DMJM Aviation provided IT security master planning support, involving a variety of services including specifications for integrated security systems, specifications for upgrading integrated common-use passenger processing systems, database design for systems infrastructure inventory and cable management, improvement of IT policies and standards and procedures, and development of web-enabled project controls and program management tools.
Security Systems
DMJM H&N performed a security system investigation at airports in Los Angeles (LAX), Ontario (ONT), Van Nuys (VNY), and Palmdale (PMD). At LAX, DMJM H&N provided planning and design services for the replacement of the Access Control System throughout the entire airport. The project includes an operational analysis, replacement strategy analysis, security compliance review, technical studies, market analysis, and, in upcoming phases, design and construction support. In addition, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system is being updated and includes a new communication backbone installed to support the security system.
In-Line Baggage Systems Integration Program Implementation (SIPI)
DMJM H&N and Austin AECOM are providing systems integration services to Los Angeles World Airports for the installation of a 100 percent in-line baggage screening system at all nine LAX terminals. Austin AECOM’s role is focused on providing the most cost effective system to improve passenger levels of service and airline baggage make-up efficiency. DMJM H&N, as a subcontractor, has provided staff augmentation services and acted as a single point of contact for system integration and vendor coordination issues.
ePM System
DMJM Aviation designed, developed, and implemented an electronic Program Management (ePM) intranet application in support of LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program, which integrates information from various system sources to provide program and project managers with an integrated status and single-point of interface for project related information. The ePM application provides LAWA project managers with full project-based reporting capabilities by using Crystal Reports to merge information from each of these independent sources of financial information into a comprehensive picture describing project and program financial performance. The ePM web application is designed using ASP.NET technology on the front-end, and SQL Server database on the back-end.
Documentum System
DMJM Aviation developed a tradeoffs analysis comparison of Electronic Content Management Systems (ECMS) and an implementation plan for LAWA. DMJM Aviation proceeded to set up and configure the Documentum ECMS solution in support of the LAWA Advanced Planning Team. DMJM Aviation also began the initial stages of implementing the Documentum solution for the Engineering and Project Management Division at LAWA, as a precursor to an enterprise-wide ECM implementation. During this program, DMJM Aviation designed, developed, and implemented Documentum’s underlying Oracle database, based upon extensive analysis of LAWA Advanced Planning Team business requirements. The underlying database was designed and configured in a manner that allows the existing Documentum implementation to be easily extended to serve the entire LAWA enterprise organization, while still maintaining data integrity and distinct controls on departmental data access where necessary.
