Master Plan and Impact Analysis

DMJM Aviation completed a master plan and impact analysis for Dallas Love Field (DAL) within a one-year timeframe.

Key plan recommendations included phased increase of gates to a maximum of 32, removal of unnecessary and outdated terminal and gate space, and ongoing monitoring of environmental and operational impacts. In April 2001, the Dallas City Council adopted the consensus master plan prepared by DMJM Aviation and agreed upon by all project stakeholders, including community participants, local businesses, and airline representatives.

Key project facts

  • Study was prompted by the city’s concern that new service patterns and additional flights at DAL would overwhelm existing facilities while negatively impacting surrounding communities
  • The goal of this project was to optimize the utilization of DAL while minimizing additional impacts to the adjacent communities
  • DMJM Aviation’s impact analysis provided an overview of the environmental impacts—particularly noise, traffic, and air quality—to the surrounding communities
  • Integral to the success of the study was an active public involvement program, incorporating a master plan advisory committee, public and small group meetings, newsletters distributed to over 50,000 residences, and a master plan website
  • Growth at DAL is estimated to generate an additional $1 billion in the local regional economy
