Southwest Florida International Airport and Page Field, Fort Myers, Florida

Since the mid-1990s, DMJM Aviation has provided multidisciplinary engineering consulting services to the Lee County Port Authority, owner and operator of Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and Page Field (FMY). Key engineering design assignments have included RSW’s $50 million airside paving package (part of RSW’s greenfield terminal development program managed by DMJM Aviation), rehabilitation of Runway 6-24 and Taxiway A at RSW, and consecutive general engineering contracts (GEC) for improvements at RSW and FMY.

Key project facts

New Midfield Terminal Complex—Airside Paving Package

  • The $50 million airside paving package for RSW covered the 128,000-square-yard aircraft parking apron, a new full-length parallel taxiway, and connector taxiways
  • Design of the 12,000-foot-long south parallel taxiway included a stormwater management system for the entire airside area between the active Runway 6-24 and the new concourses
  • The site preparation contract covered the overall stormwater pipe installation, detention pond, and conveyance channel construction, including rough excavation and embankment
  • The taxiway paving documents covered fine grading, taxiway and shoulder grading, subgrade and base preparation, paving, seeding and sodding, and lighting and signage

Rehabilitation of Runway 6-24 and Taxiway A and GEC Assignments

  • DMJM Aviation prepared the design for rehabilitation of Runway 6-24 and Taxiway A at RSW, incorporating drainage improvements through eight separate drainage networks
  • GEC work at RSW spanned airside, landside, and terminal facilities, including a new terminal concourse, a covered walkway system, a new midfield access road, rehabilitation of the air carrier apron, expansion of the east ramp, and a pavement distress study for Runway 6-24
  • GEC work at FMY included a 170,000-square-yard bituminous apron rehabilitation, terminal building improvements for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, a new 10-unit T-hangar facility, and an ATCT line-of-sight analysis and shadow construction study
