CM Services for new sixth runway

DMJM Aviation provided construction management, inspection, and quality assurance services for the Runway 16R-34L paving and lighting construction project at Denver International Airport (DEN).

The project’s scope included construction of a 16,000-foot-long, 200-foot-wide Group VI, Category III/Ic concrete paved runway with an associated lighting vault. The constructed runway is the longest commercial runway in North America and the longest instrument landing system (ILS) equipped runway in the world. This runway is the sixth runway at DEN and is 33 percent larger than the other five.     

The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) selected DMJM Aviation for its 2004 Construction Management Project Achievement Award in the category of public project with a construction value greater than $100 million.  

Key project facts

• DEN’s sixth runway was designed for handling Group 6 aircraft, the next generation Very Large Aircraft (VLA) such as the Airbus A380
•  The DMJM Aviation team provided proactive quality assessment at every level and in every area while maintaining near maximum production
• Runway 16R-34L was the first project of its size to require 100% Acceptance Testing of the American Society for Testing Materials’ test frequency saving the client over $5 million in fees
